This Sunday at the Birmingham Farmers’ Market we’ll have beautiful Golden Oyster Mushrooms available along with Black Pearl Mushrooms which are a very dense and meaty variety. Mushrooms possess many nutritional and medicinal health benefits. For example, they are full of nutrients, including iron, calcium, potassium, selenium, and vitamins such as C, D, B1, B3, B5, and B12. We sell them by the 1/2 pound – $10. You might be surprised, but there’s a type of tiny green plant called a microgreen that tastes like melon. It’s the cantaloupe microgreen! It’s important to pick these little greens when they are just budding, about 2 and a half inches tall, because if they grow too much, they start to taste bitter. These cantaloupe microgreens can make your fruit salads extra special, or give a fresh twist to your sherbet or ice cream. Give them a try!
