Sunflowers Anyone?

Sunflowers Anyone?

Sunflower microgreens taste similar to sunflower seeds with a nutty undertone and a nice crunch. Sunflower microgreens are great in wraps, burgers, and sandwiches. We also enjoy just snacking on them. Even our dogs think they’re a tasty treat. Sunflower microgreens are a source of

What Do You Do With Them?

What Do You Do With Them?

We get asked this question a lot at the Farmers’ Market. The answer is “There are countless ways to use microgreens!”
People use them as snacks – particularly the crunchy sunflowers (our dogs even love them as a treat). Customers use them in shakes for extra protein. They use them as toppings on sandwiches, salads, burgers, pizza, eggs, avocados, salads, and even pancakes! Add them to entrees for extra flavor or to highlight a dish. Our Asian, garden, Hero, Italian, Rainbow, and Spicy Microgreen Mixes can be used as individual salads or as a supplement for any salad or entree. Microgreens are a very versatile, nutritious way to eat healthy. Let your imagination run free.
You can get Motor City Micro Farm microgreens at any Zerbos Market location, Papa Joes-Birmingham, Plum Markets, and Westborn Markets, and you can also get them home delivered through Market Wagon, the online farmers’ market.

Eat Healthy!

Eat Healthy!

Did you know eating microgreens provides many healthy benefits? Microgreens contain powerful antioxidants that can help protect against certain diseases. We recently worked with Plum Markets to do some demos and sampling of our microgreens at 3 of their stores. One of the most common questions relayed back to us from the demonstrators was, “What are microgreens and why should I eat them?” It’s a question we also get a lot at our booth at the farmers’ market.
Microgreens are the beginning stage of the plant and they are normally 9-12 days old when harvested. Unlike sprouts, they are a miniature version of the full-grown plant. In most cases, they taste just like the full-grown plant.
So what’s so special about adding them to your diet? For one, they contain up to 40% more nutrients than the full-grown version of the same plant according to a USDA study. You don’t have to eat as much to get the same amount of nutritional value. They’re packed with vitamins, nutrients that supercharge your immune system and in some cases chemicals that inhibit the growth of cancer cells.
Check out our microgreens at the Birmingham Farmers’ Market this Sunday, Plum Markets, Papa Joes, Zerbos Markets or Westborn Markets.
