Growing 38 varieties of microgreens sustainabily in Detroit

Way Back – Starting Out

Here’s a throwback!

Nate, Chris and Mark (Kelly’s taking the pic) in December 2017. We bought this 17,000 sq ft building on W. Chicago in Detroit the previous month that had been vacant for 10 years. It had been hit hard by scrappers and was stripped of all the metal piping, mechanical items and electrical wiring. We had just finished clearing and hauling away (3) 30-yard dumpsters full of trash and debris from outside the building and parking lot in order to be able to just pull our cars in off the street and park. We worked all winter long after that in the unheated building carting away another (9) 30-yard dumpsters full of trash and debris from the interior of the building before we could start refurbishing it. This was the start of our Motor City Sea Farm business which began in January 2019 followed by our Motor City Micro Farm business in 2021.
