Getting Ready!

Getting Ready!

With Spring approaching, Kelly and I got a start on our cut flowers for the new season at the Birmingham Farmers’ Market last weekend. Market Wagon (www.marketwagon.com) is an online farmers’ market that offers home delivery over a wide part of the Metro Detroit area. While many of the grocer stores we’ve partnered with (Plum Markets, Papa Joes, Westborn Markets and Zerbos Markets) offer a good selection of our microgreens and mixes, we’re able to offer a wider selection on Market Wagon. You can order weekly from Market Wagon until midnight on Sundays and your order is delivered to your home fresh the following Tuesday afternoon. Check it out!

Ugh Winter!

Pretty cold and bleak outside here at Motor City Micro Farm. Our flower gardens are sleeping under the blanket of snow. We’ll start seeding our summer flower flats inside soon., but in the meantime, we’re growing our microgreens indoors trying our best to keep them

Are Our Microgreens Organic?

Are Our Microgreens Organic?

It’s a question we get asked occasionally and the simple answer is, “no”, but there’s a little more to it. Though we are not certified “Organic”, we do practice many organic methods in the growing of our microgreens. We do not use any chemicals, fertilizers, insecticides or pesticides. We use only NON-GMO seeds and in some cases, our peas and cantaloupe are grown with organic seeds. Our soil is carefully screened to ensure that it is contaminant-free and safe. Overall, we practice safe growing methods and have been recognized and certified by both the Michigan Department of Agriculture and the USDA for those efforts.
Organic Certification is expensive and we feel the expense is unnecessary based on the needs of most of our customers.

Just got done ordering all the plants and seeds for Kelly’s 2025 flower garden down on the farm. She’ll have bouquets galore again this year at the Birmingham Farmers’ Market. Looking forward to seeing everyone again this year.
